The Stage Movie

A new movie called The Stage was shown in a few cinemas. The preview screenings continued until July 20. The movie was directed by Chen Peisi, a famous comedian who also starred in the movie. The movie was based on Chen's long-running stage play of the same name.

The story takes place almost a hundred years ago, when warlords often fought. The story is full of humor. Chen plays the leader of a Peking Opera group. The movie starts as the group travels to Beijing to perform for three days. But a warlord mistakes a restaurant waiter for the group's best star. This causes many silly things to happen. The stage play was a big hit. It was shown more than 330 times over 10 years, in 65 cities, including Vancouver and Toronto in Canada. The play shows true artists’ strong belief: they will do anything to fight against being disrespected by powerful people who don't understand art. One part of the story is as follows: the warlord takes out a gun to make the group change a key part of their show Farewell My Concubine. But everyone in the group thinks it should not be changed. The movie already hit cinemas all over the country on July 25, and it got a lot of good reviews from the audience.
