China’s Global Innovation Rank

For the first time, China has entered the top ten of the Global Innovation Index (创新指数), becoming one of the world's ten most innovative nations. It is now ranked tenth, while Germany slips to the eleventh place. This change shows that Asia is playing a bigger role in advanced research and development than before.

Switzerland keeps its first place as the most innovative country, followed by Sweden and the United States. The Republic of Korea and Singapore are also in the top five. The United Kingdom, Finland, the Netherlands, and Denmark all stay in strong positions.

China's entry into the top ten is an important milestone (里程碑). It reflects our country's growing success in patents(专利) and high-tech industries. Interestingly, global spending on research and development has been growing very slowly in recent years— falling to its weakest level since the financial crisis. Yet, China now makes up one-quarter of all international patent applications(申请). At the same time, countries like the US, Japan, and Germany reported small declines.

Germany has dropped from the top ten because of some challenges in its digital transformation(数字化转型), even though its industrial innovation is still strong. On the other hand, China's progress proves that its investments (投资) in science, technology, and intellectual property(知识产权) are working. It makes the global technology competition more intense than ever.
